Home Turbine: Why Wind Power Is Preferable To Solar Power

By : Roger Brown

The home wind turbine is better for you than a home solar collector. That is a fact that is proven.

Please, allow me to explain…

First of all, the home wind turbine is a very simple device that you can intuitively grasped within a short period of time. It is a very straightforward mechanical device that works like a child's pinwheel. It is really no more complicated than that. The only real difference is the energy that's created is not dissipated and instead it is propagated to a battery system or to a final load point via a collection of wires.

Those wires take the DC or direct-current energy that is created through the mechanical process of turning the rotor system and move that to an inverter that changes the DC energy and to AC or alternating current electricity they can be stored in a battery and later used by a device.

While that is the biggest advantage - it straightforwardness - wind power also has a big conceptual advantage over solar and the fact that they can be installed by an average handyman in most cases. Someone who's good with home projects can usually set up and install a wind turbine either on the roof or on top of a tower.

Solar panels, in contrast, are a lot less intuitive. If you do some study in order to understand how these devices collect radiant energy and transfer them into the same form that is created by a wind turbine for example.

Furthermore, solar panels are more difficult installing and usually take the resources of a licensed electrician to get them up and running. That can really add a lot of cost to a home renewable energy project. In some cases the installation of solar panels can be as costly as the device itself.

If you are just getting started in the renewable energy sphere, it is probably a better idea to stick with home wind turbine technology to get used to the concept. This is not to say that solar collectors are a bad idea, but it is probably best that you walk before you run. Since wind energy is so much more obvious and how it works, it just makes more sense to start from that perspective and then evolve into solar panels if you have the ability based on where you live.

In summary, there are a lot more places in the world for a home wind turbine than for solar panels to collect renewable energy for use in the home. So, that, combined with the fact that they are cheaper, means wind should be your first line of defense in the war against rising electricity costs.
