Area rugs are popular worldwide because of their style as well as functional value. These rugs have variations in terms of material, texture, color, design, weight etc. These variations ensure that rugs are available for all types of budgets. Area rugs can be Persian made or Oriental rugs which are generally very pricey and also they can be made using sisal grass, mountain grass or even bamboo, which are pretty affordable. Let us today find out the various types of area rugs which are available in the market.

Natural Area Rugs: These rugs are cheap because they are made using readily available natural material like mountain grass, jute, bamboo, sea grass, sisal grass etc. These are very durable rugs and are cheaper compared to rugs made of wool, silk, cotton etc.

Braided Area Rugs: Wool is the basic material used for making these rugs. Cotton and silk are also used. Manmade materials like nylon and olefin are also used for making these rugs. Fabric strips are braided to create ropes which are then woven together to make exclusively beautiful patterns. These are very durable rugs and have easy cleaning methods. These rugs can be used inside and outside the house.

Hand Knotted Area Rugs: These are just as pricey as you can think. They are handmade and they are immensely labor intensive. The quality of these rugs depends on the number of knots available per square inch. The more the number of knots, the better it is. With 160 knots, the rugs are very good with 600 knots per square inch, they are simply work or art which have no competition. Take it to 1000 knots and they become rare masterpieces. They are exclusive in the sense that once a design is woven, the same design will never be woven again. This explains why they are so pricey. These rugs call for extreme care and handling!

Persian Area Rugs: Sometimes these rugs are also referred to as Oriental rugs but since they have a long history and they are the finest of all rugs available in the market they have successful earned their own fame and are exclusively known as Persian rugs. These rugs are made of finest quality material and are handcrafted. Each design is unique and has a separate story to tell. They are known for their impeccable craftsmanship and hence they are extremely expensive and they can be easily handed over from one generation to other as heirlooms.

Oriental Area Rugs: Oriental stands for China. That is what we have been taught since childhood but in terms of Rugs, Oriental refers to rugs which are made in China, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tibet, Nepal as well as Caucasus made rugs. Oriental rugs also refer to rugs made in different parts of Middle East as well as Eurasia. These rugs are in general the finest quality rugs which are available all over the world. In general they have bright color and elaborate designs and they are generally bulky and have fine textures. These rugs are generally big and they can be used as wall to wall area rugs. Since these rugs are all hand woven and since the make use of expensive material, they are very pricey.
