With renewable energy sources beginning to really crowd out the horizon these days the situation is becoming more confusing than ever for anyone looking into wind turbines for homes. It is very easy to over-buy or under-buy one of these systems and just hope that it will work for your application. There is no reason to guess though. It is easy enough to get this right the first time. Although it takes some time to accurately assess the amount of wind resource potential that you have, it is an effort that is worth making. The way to do that is quite straightforward. You need to pick the locations that you might install the wind turbines and mount those data collection devices that height that you actually install the real device. The way you can do that is with a small "imitation" of a wind generator called an anemometer. The anemometer will just sit atop the tower and take data for as long as you leave it there - typically though it needs to stay for 6 to 9 months in order to collect enough data to make this a truly scientific data collection. That gives you enough information that you can really grasp the wind signature or wind profile of the specific location. Once you have collected this data you can analyze it and make the most sense out of your 4 to 5 options for deploying wind turbines for homes. One will probably just stand out above the others. This in-depth investigation into which option will work best is a bit of a hassle but it will save you a lot of money in the long run. By taking a little effort before you actually size the turbine, you can avoid a big hassle and not having to remove the wind device and reinstall it somewhere else. To not take this step is really a big mistake. And, although it is a big mistake, many people still do. Claims by manufacturers that you can make enough energy to completely power your house are just too seductive. To do this right you got to step back and look at the big picture. You need to slow down and make sure that the steps you take are scientifically in line with what the bigger wind farm companies are doing. If you copy their analytically-based approach to how to size a wind turbine, you will not be far off the mark and you will come as close as you possibly can optimizing your particular situation at your house. While wind turbines for homes are not a 100% solution to all of your energy costs, they can make a big dent in them and it is worth your while to spend the time to get them right the first time.
