Residential Wind Mill: Do You Know The Tax Incentives?

[Valid RSS feed]  Category Rss Feed - http://www.articleforbacklinks.com/rss.php?rss=92
By : Roger Brown

The residential wind turbine is not free. However, there are a number of tax incentives and other opportunities to take advantage of manufacturers' generosity out there that can tremendously reduce the cost to you, the purchaser of the residential wind device.

First, we must all come to grips with the fact that our traditional sources of power are dwindling. We need take some action now and that is reflected in the government's position on what they will support in terms of residential energy.

Right now there is a 30% federal government tax credit for anyone purchasing a renewable energy system. This is a tremendous incentive because it's not only for the price of the wind turbine itself, but it is also for all of the installation cost associated with the set up and mounting of the wind device.

Also, there are local and state incentives that complement the federal tax credit. Sometimes they are exactly the same depending on which state you're talking about. As well, these credits will apply to any renewable energy project that you have in mind, whether it is wind, sun, or geothermal.

Also, some utilities have been directed by their public service commissions to offer this type of incentive to homeowners as well. The logic behind that is, from the public service commission standpoint, is that by homeowners having their own income supplies of electricity producing equipment, utilities can avoid building additional power plants at the public's expense. In the public service commissions mind, this reduces the impact that the utility has on increasing greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.

Quick sidebar - utilities have a dual mission in this affair. They are charged with supplying electricity to everyone, but they are also required to do that at the least possible cost. In the past many utilities have built power plants when they didn't really need to and then put that cost only backs for the consumer to pay for.

One last way to cut down on your home wind turbine cost right out-of-the-box. That is, incentives offered by manufacturers. They are in a very competitive market now with so many wind turbine manufacturers popping up that they have to offer reasons for you to purchase their turbine instead of someone else's.

All in all, residential wind turbine products do cost some money but not nearly as much as they did even five years ago. With the wealth of incentives that are out there, there's just no reason to pay full book price for one of these devices anymore.
