When you are considering the cost of wind power, there are several items that you must investigate before you go too far down this road. These factors have a lot to do with determining the price you pay, so it is a good idea to slow down and spend some time thinking them through on the front end of the project. If you investigate the following items before you begin you will be a lot more pleased with your outcome and the wind turbine you eventually buy: 1. What is the strength of the wind on your property? Since we can\'t see the wind and only see what it does, we have to take some data to get a good answer to that question. The best place for most people to install a wind turbine is on the roof. Although the roof is not the ideal place to find strong wind, it is a good compromise location. It is easy to access and the wind is sufficient if you locate the turbine and just the right place. Collecting some data at this point though is a very good idea. By employing an anemometer, you can be reasonably sure about the strength of the wind in certain locations on your roof and elsewhere before you buy anything. 2. What are options for locating a wind device where you are? What constraints do you have? Before you go any further, it\'s a good idea to check with your local city government see what permits are required to put a windmill on your property. Many times we find that local governments will require the windmill to be set back a certain number of feet from the adjoining property or, a restriction in terms of how high a turbine can be mounted on top of the tower. 3. How much power do you need to make? To get this one right you got to look through your options. For most people starting out just charging a set of batteries is the easiest way. Although, eventually you can graduate to the point where you\'re powering your entire house with the windmill, that\'s a lot more complicated undertaking. If you choose to charge a set of batteries, you can make your final decisions about which appliances to back up later. Paying attention to these factors at the beginning of the project will drive you to the right wind generator for you and your unique circumstances.
