Wind Turbines For Homes: Are They Always Right?

[Valid RSS feed]  Category Rss Feed - http://www.articleforbacklinks.com/rss.php?rss=92
By : Roger Brown

When we're talking about wind turbines for homes we should definitely not start out with the assumption that they are always the right thing for all people in all circumstances. Sometimes and in some circumstances they just aren't right.

To be specific, these are the situations in which wind turbines for homes are quite possibly just a bad idea and should be abandoned for other potentially better renewable energy solutions…

The first case where wind turbines for homes just don't work are when the wind is inadequate at the location that you have selected to install the turbine device. Most people think that because they see the wind blowing through the trees that there is necessarily enough wind energy out there to supply them enough to power a small device. That is certainly not always the case though. Many places have some wind but not nearly enough for those purposes.

You need to do a careful study of the microclimate at a particular location to be able understand if there is enough wind there are to float this project. That requires the services of a small device known as an anemometer. The anemometer will record data at that specific location for as long as you want. Usually, that is anywhere from 6 to 9 months.

I know that sounds like a long time, but you simply have to understand the wind signature at the location you're planning to install it in order to make the right decision and know if they home wind device will work for you there. Another instance where these devices simply will not work is if the local governmental jurisdiction says, no.

Not to say that is always the case though. Many times communities embrace this type of project as very forward thinking and green oriented. However, there are still those among us who haven't caught on yet and are making it difficult for people to install residential wind turbines for homes in their local communities.

In summary, there are several reasons why wind turbines for homes might not be the right thing for your home. You can't get away with a cursory examination of the factors involved here. The only way is to dive into the details and study the particular location where you might place the wind device and see if all conditions are right and if it will make enough power to make you happy and create the amount of energy that you expect it to.
