Household Wind Devices: Which Wind turbine Should You Buy?

When you want to take advantage of residential wind power to deliver electricity to your home, there are it a number of options. However, you can get so caught up in these details that you don't ever take action.

While there are a number of turbines out there that will likely fit your need, the simplest solution is usually the best. Residential wind turbines come in several varieties but the most common are horizontal axis devices.

Horizontal axis wind turbines are a very ancient technology when it comes right down to. They have been around literally for thousands of years in one form or another. They have been made to grind grain and may have been made to pump water in very simplistic societies.

Now, in this latest iteration of devices that allows us to make electricity at home, the residential wind generator is used either on top of a tower or on the roof. The higher up in the atmosphere that you install such a device, the more wind you will take advantage of.

The wind is always strongest above the level of the obstructions like trees and so forth. The stronger the wind in the more consistent the wind, the more power you will make. Even a small difference of one or 2 miles per hour in average wind can make a tremendous difference in the amount of electricity will make over the course of a year.

While you can certainly buy other devices like vertical wind turbines, they are a lot more expensive. The horizontal axis wind turbine is the best value for the money. That is because it is hyper-efficient. The reason it is so efficient is it will find the best wind. The tail technology allows it to seek the prevailing wind of greater strength and therefore offers the greatest wind energy efficiency of any device you might choose.

That is why you should choose the horizontal wind turbine for your first purchase. The other alternatives are just technology that has not arrived yet. While they would be aesthetically pleasing, vertical wind turbines are very expensive and inefficient. They operate well in chaotic environments like on a roof, but even then they don't put out nearly as much electricity for a given volume of wind as the residential wind turbine of the horizontal variety does.

In summary, residential wind systems can be just the answer for cutting home energy costs in an aggressive way. It is always best however, to consider all the options when making a purchase of this order of magnitude.
