Windmill Kits Vs. Solar Energy Options

When you are thinking about wind turbine kits it is wise to also consider solar collectors in your analysis of available renewable energy solutions. Their basic components are not that different and often you can employ both at the same time and save even more money.

Here are the similarities in the 2 systems:

Both wind turbine kits and solar collectors derive their power from the sun. That's right - even the wind comes from the sun. As the sun heats the earth, that heat radiates upward and dissipates during the day. That dissipation is what makes most of the wind we see and feel.

Once the energy from the wind or the sun is absorbed or taken in by the renewable energy collection system, it is converted to electricity you can use by means of a power inverter. The inverter takes the DC or direct current created by the windmill or by the solar panel and converts it to AC or alternating current which can be used in your home as electricity. These are how they are dissimilar:

Solar is a very passive system. That means there are no moving parts to speak of. Wind power on the other hand has a number of moving parts and can damage itself by being exposed to too much strong wind. As a matter of fact, all wind turbines have maximum speed limits and internal systems that will automatically shut them down if the wind becomes too strong.

While both solar and wind technologies need to be serviced, solar requires much less. There is just not that much to go wrong with the system. There are advantages and disadvantages of both but wind and solar really should be considered together. There is just no reason to rule one out.

We must aggressively move to include all available forms of renewable power creation if we are to become grid independent. As prices come down and hybrid products continue to surface, we will all be using wind turbine kits and solar collectors more actively in many more application.

It won't matter so much whether you are living in an area that has a certain number of sunny days or a high average wind speed as price reductions make these units much easier to afford.

In conclusion, it is smart to consider all you choices when looking into wind turbine kits and solar power kits. They aren't mutually exclusive and they can both provide power that lets you seriously move forward toward weaning yourself off the electricity grid.
