If you are building a new home with a basement or moving into a home where the basement is not insulated, it's important to get it done sooner than later. Insulating basement walls is a good way to cut down on issues like mold and high bills from cold air getting into the basement. Basement wall insulation can take several different forms, each with its own pros and cons in terms of cost and protection. You may want to research the various basement insulation methods before you settle on one, just to be sure you're getting the most value and coverage for your money. One of the basement insulation methods many people use is to frame the walls with 2 x 4s to create cavities all along the surface of the walls. Once the framing is complete, you can stuff the cavities with fiberglass or foam basement wall insulation, then finish the walls with drywall or some other material. The framing and filling method is a common way of insulating basement walls against the cold air from outside. Another way to put up basement wall insulation is to install furring strips right onto the concrete by drilling holes into the walls. The strips are secured with fasteners, and then pieces of rigid foam board are cut to fit into the cavities that were created when you attached the furring strips. After using this type of basement insulation, drywall can be used to cover it up and finish the walls, just like with framing basement insulation methods. Spray foam is another way of insulating basement walls that many builders like to use. The foam is sprayed directly onto the concrete as basement wall insulation, to keep the drafts and cold air out. Sometimes, builders or homeowners prefer to insulate the ceiling when choosing basement insulation methods. They may choose blanket basement ceiling insulation or loose fill ceiling insulation as an inexpensive way to provide protection for insulating basement areas. These types of ceiling insulation are quick and simple basement insulation methods that many choose just to get the job done. Basement wall insulation panels are another way of insulating basement walls that's used in many newer homes. Basement insulation methods like panels are also considered environmentally friendly compared to some others. To install basement wall insulation panels, all other framing and insulation has to be removed from the walls. The walls have to be measured and a metal track installed so the panels will fit into place. Once the track is installed, you can begin installing the panels in one of the corners. Then, you must use the clips provided by the manufacturer to install the remainder of the insulating basement wall panels. Sometimes, the instructions for basement wall insulation panels will vary, so it's wise to read them carefully so you don't make any mistakes that will lead to a draft getting in. Drywall or gypsum board can go over top of the insulating basement panels to finish the room.
