The home wind turbine can be a great way of coming close to demolishing energy expenses at your house. This is a technology that is very straightforward and simple to employ. Also, you can find wind energy systems available most anywhere on the Internet - Amazon.com for example has a wide variety of simple home wind turbine kits that you can use. But, there are a lot of potholes along the way if you're not careful. This technology is terribly unforgiving of anyone who doesn't do their homework before they get started. To do your homework is not that hard it just takes time. You need to do this and look in depth very careful fashion before you begin or else you could make a very costly mistake that will take time and energy to correct. The best way to start out is to assess where you are right now. What are the raw materials or energy resources you have available on your property at the moment. To understand that you need to take a little bit of effort to collect the data. It is easy to go to sources on the Internet, like Weather Underground.com, and get a rough idea if your particular area or your zip code is conducive to the production of wind energy. You will need at least 9 mph of wind on average to make this work for you. That is of course, unless you get a super efficient device that tends to be a lot more expensive like a Honeywell home wind turbine. Once you've taken a little bit of effort and collected data around your property at various locations where you might consider installing such a wind turbine, it is time to analyze that data and make sure that it complies with the requirements that I just mentioned. If you have 9 mph or greater in a particular location then your project is pretty much a no-brainer. If however you have less than that then you need to go back to the drawing board. A wind device probably is not in your immediate future but maybe when the technology improved to the point where lower initial speeds will allow you to generate electricity from a lot smaller amount of wind. The home wind turbine can also be rejected by your local jurisdiction because of permitting problems. They could well be that the location you have selected for your wind device is not allowed by code. It always pays to take a trip down City Hall to verify that what you want to do will work.
