The fact they are new to the market means that there are not a lot of them being built - when something is in short supply it is commonly a lot more expensive. Also, the fact that they have to be aesthetically pleasing for the setting in which they are usually installed means that there design with ornamentation in mind. That always means additional expense. By and large, that is why a horizontal axis wind turbine will be your best wind turbine choice right now. The economies of scale favor the horizontal over the vertical and there are just a lot more of them on the market. In conclusion, the best wind turbine is always the one that fits the application suited for home use right now - the horizontal is going to be your best choice.
