The best wind turbine power that you can expect to achieve at your house will have a lot to do with the type of turbine that you choose to install and where you choose to install it. For example, it is not unusual to be able to power a small appliance like a freezer or a small pump. However it is quite uncommon to be able to power your entire house. Even though this is often in the sales literature for these devices, it just does not happen that often.
You have to keep in mind that any renewable device is going to give you an intermittent supply. The nature of renewable energy is that we are relying on either radiation from the sun in the case of solar collectors or, wind blowing around your property in the case of a wind turbine. As we all know this does not occur 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. We are all subject to the will of the wisps when it comes to our power supplies from renewable sources.
Of course this is not all bad though. Many large utilities for example are investing in wind farms to collect the wind power and then the charge a set of batteries for use as backup when their own systems fail. As long as you're willing to invest in a set of batteries the intermittent nature of the renewable energy system really doesn't matter that much.
That being said though, you don't need to count on being able to achieve power 24 hours a day with your home wind turbine. The best wind turbine power that you can expect is going to be spotty at best.
Of course none of this would be required if it weren't for the shrinking energy supplies that the world is seeing everywhere now. There's just no way for us to avoid these because what powers power generating plants is fuels that were created millions of years ago.
You have to be careful about your expectations when you're looking into any new project. Our tendency as a species is to over project results and later be disappointed. That is a sure opportunity for failure. It is a lot better to go in with realistic expectations and then have them exceeded.
In summary, the best way to get an idea of what you should expect with the best wind turbine power project is to carefully assess what the wind character is where you're located and then size the wind turbine accordingly to meet the amount of power that you actually need to create.
