When you buy a home wind turbine is no different than any other home project. There are certain key steps that you need to take to understand which kind you need to buy. Many people just jump right into this because they assumed that the wind surrounding their property will be sufficient for producing electricity. It would be nice if that were the case, but unfortunately the state of the technology now requires that you have at least 9 mph of wind on average to be able make a successful project. Therefore, you have to do a little light reconnaissance work to get at that data and understand whether or not you fit in the category of someone who will benefit from such a device at home. The 3 steps that you need to take before you buy a wind turbine for your house are… Analyze the amount of wind resources that you have to draw from-the easiest and usually the initial step here is to check out the resources of the federal government and their wind map. This government wind map will tell you if your particular area of the country has enough wind to support a power generation device at your house. The government's wind map will stratify the entire country according to average wind speed. Although the strongest and most consistent winds tend to occur in the Midwest and on the coasts, as prices come down and technology improves, more and more of the country will be a fertile ground for wind turbine use. Then, it makes the most sense to drive down another level and make sure that your particular property and specifically where you want to locate your wind device will have enough blowing wind throughout the day to support installing such a project. This can be done with an anemometer mounted in the proper location where you might put the wind turbine, in order to collect some data to later analyze for average wind speed. If you're wind speed happens to correlate with what you learn from the government table, then you probably have a very good project if your wind speed is over 9 mph. The second thing you must do is see if there are any permitting restrictions that might keep you from putting the wind turbine up-while this is changing there are some communities that still disapprove of renewable energy devices and the "look" they have on someone's house. It could well be that you're not totally prevented from doing a project like this, but you may be restricted in the type of turbine and in the location you place it. The last thing to do is decide what you want to supply power for-the home wind turbine kits can be used to powered appliance like a refrigerator or freezer or, it can be a device to power your entire home. You just need to understand how much energy draw these things require and then match that up to the wind resources that you have available. In summary, the home wind turbine can be a powerful device for you at your house and allow you to make a lot of electricity that you would otherwise have to buy. However it behooves you to study these project elements in detail before you begin and don't leave any particular steps out in your rush to get things done.
