A career as a motivational speaker can be very lucrative and rewarding. The first step in becoming a motivational speaker is to identify what you will speak about. There are many topics to motivate and inspire others. You must look at your experience, your passion, and your story in order to be able to speak to groups about them. You have to be entrepreneurial when launching a career, especially one that is you. Your product is your story and you have to determine who and where you want to tell it.Like any business, you also need promotional materials, references and a website. Social networking is another effective way to get your message out, and get some buzz going about what you do. Being in the right place at the right time is always an effective strategy. Give night courses, attend events and meet people who may be looking for speakers. An agent or publicist is another avenue to getting the word out that you are available for speaking engagements. The first will be the hardest, but once you begin to develop a reputation as an amazing speaker, you can build on that. You might start by joining groups that specialize in public speaking. Volunteering at charity events is another way to get started, and a chance to fine tune your speech in a public venue. The bottom line is that you have to work at it, believe in yourself, and deliver motivation and inspiration to your audience.
