By : Roger Brown

With the economy the way it is, the job of wind turbine technician as a career path deserves your careful consideration. There are so few positions out there now that offer obviously great options for the future, but a job in this growing renewable energy market is clearly a great place to be setting your sights.

With the worldwide focus on shifting from traditional sources of energy to wind power and other renewable energy choices, now is almost unbelievably good time to focus on options regarding how to make money in the wind energy business. With as many wind turbines as there are out there now and as few people as there are to work on them, now is the perfect time to consider wind turbine technician positions on your list of jobs for the future.

Why is renewable energy such a great place to be looking for a job now? With the shift from a carbon-based society, all of the attention now is on ways to reduce the amount of fossil fuels we are burning. That means that utilities and home consumers alike are looking into ways to bring this to reality. If you are at all mechanically inclined, the job of home wind turbine technician could be just the ticket for you.

There are a lot of inherent advantages that you need to be aware of in this job, as well as a few disadvantages that it would wise to take heed of...

Pay - the pay is incredible. Starting wind turbine technicians can make over $80,000 a year in some markets. That is more a reflection of the dearth of practitioners than the long term benefits to society of this job though. This may change, but for now the pay is very good for the level of education one must have to pursue this as a career.

Travel - you are likely going to have to travel a lot if you go into this profession. For a younger person without family commitments, this can be a great way to see the country or even the world.

Risks of the job - you are having to sometimes work at great heights. Many of the wind turbines that you will be working on are over 100 feet in the air. Combine that with the fact that the blades may be turning while you are working on the device and there is definitely some risk involved.

In conclusion, the job of wind turbine technician is a strong career choice for many people now. The pay is awesome and the job is one with strong growth potential. That is not something many jobs offer at the moment.
