Recently I was running a deep and dark fever. I was told repeatedly the only answer was fluids and plenty of bed rest but I would be damned if I let a little spike in my body temperature come between me and work, a rabid social life and lots of drinking. Of course the end result of all of that pushing my body to the limit was that my immune system pretty much completely failed me. I felt ill and had an exploding array of canker sores in my mouth. Needless to say I spent the weekend in my apartment hiding from anyone who might judge my bad decisions and feel threatened by my compromised health. Weird thing is once I settled into bed with my lap top and some not citric canker sore friendly juices I actually had something of an enjoyable time relaxing in bed. This was due in no small part to a wealth of free online entertainment. Having a wifi connection and a laptop is basically all you need to have a completely enjoyable weekend in bed. I started by watching a handful of my favorite funny videos online. It was a nice start and a great pallet cleanser before I dove into the wide array of free documentaries online. Some were funny, others were Earth crushingly depressing, strangely the whole mess made me feel a lot better about my inability to eat solid food. As the first day wound down I wondered if I had reached the end of the internet's ability to entertain. Then I simply started to watch full free movies online. I watched Oliver Stone's W. which I liked but didn't love. I watched Gangs of New York, better than I remember it being. I watched movie after movie and it felt great to be immersed in entertainment and ignoring the still persistent symptoms of my ailment. These free movie sites online were not only saving my weekend, they were making me feel vibrant and happy to be alive through one of the most disgusting illnesses of my life. By the time the weekend was coming to a close I was starting to feel better. My entire attitude had changed. I wanted to stay in bed watching movies until my legs atrophied and I lost the ability to walk freely. I wanted to be the most well versed film fan in history and a high temperature was going to take me there. Of course the next day I felt mostly normal and had to drag myself into the office. I was disappointed but I guess all good things must come to an end.
