Giving birth to a child is one of the best experiences for a mother. But giving birth to a child is not a task which should be taken lightly, rather, approached with extra care and precaution so that the new born child does not face any defects and problems. Precautions must not only be taken during pregnancy, but also before pregnancy as well. If precautions are not taken properly, the child may face birth defects which are very difficult to cure. However, this is not to say that by taking precautions you can prevent all defects. There are certain problems which cannot be prevented, although one must not take any chances, especially when the life of a new born child is involved. Thus, you should take proper precautions and measures before the start of, and during, pregnancy so as to have a healthy baby. Precautions before pregnancy Women must take extra precautions if planning for pregnancy. Mentioned below are some of the key points which a mother should keep in mind: Vitamin B is very good for women who are planning for a baby. Vitamin B is found in Folic acid. Women should intake 400 mcg of vitamin B daily. It helps in safeguarding a child from birth defects related to the brain or spine. Women should not drink alcohol before or during the pregnancy in any form as it affects an unborn baby. If a woman drinks alcohol it can lead to a defect known as Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder. Women should not smoke before or during their pregnancy in any form as it affects the unborn baby. If a woman smokes, it can lead to the premature birth of the child or even death. It can also lead to certain defects. It is not only that a women should not smoke, a would be mother should also not be around people who do smoke as it leads to passive smoking which is also dangerous for the new born child. Consumption of illegal drugs is very injurious for a baby as it results in premature birth of a child as well as a low birth weight. The consumption of cocaine, canabis, etc., must be strictly prohibited for women who are pregnant as it can lead to several birth defects. Precautions during Pregnancy It is not only before pregnancy that women must take precautions; it is also during pregnancy that such precautions must be taken: Women should not indulge in any kind of medication or vaccinations without consulting a doctor as it may harm a child. Women should not indulge into any activity that can lead to infection as it is not good for a child. Women who are suffering from sugar problems or high blood pressure must control their sugar and blood pressure level as it is not safe during pregnancy. Body weight must be properly balanced to have a healthy child. A visit to the doctor at regular interval is a must for a pregnant lady. Stay away from violence. Thus, these are certain key points which a women must take into account before and during pregnancy so as to have a healthy child.
