If you are exploring the concept of managed hosting for a new or proposed business launch, it is crucial to understand why custom SLA is important for managed hosting. Managed hosting is the ability to receive hosting services with management of size, structure and speed for the service. SLA is the Service Level Agreement prepared between the company or person needing the hosting service and the company that creates the components of each site and service. Here are some components that should be included within such agreements. The agreement defines the connectivity for the network. This includes the speed of connection that the client has the right to expect. It also binds the provider to the amount and speed that must be provided by the host equipment. This allows performance to be measured easily as a component of determining whether or not the specifications of the agreement have been met. The equipment that is used in the operation of an agreement is specifically identified. This includes the dedicated managed server model and perhaps the brand. The agreement might also specify how long the expected life is. The SLA might include information about when the equipment will be replaced and what constitutes obsolescence. Stating how and when the replacement will be accomplished is a part of an agreement. The responsibility for monitoring the entire system is that of the service provider. The client obviously wants to avoid server downtime, especially during high usage time. System maintenance times are typically set in the agreement, hopefully during the the lowest need times of the client. The client may occasionally experience emergency maintenance or repair needs. The procedure to handle this event is also spelled out in the agreement. The provider must have availability of administration. For clients, the ability to reach someone during certain specified hours is important. Configuration of each system is stated, including network maintenance and implementation, file system setup and configuration of a remote printer capability. The operating system user administration is a part of an overall system. Installation of hardware, and installation and maintenance of the power distribution system and the console access system are directed. The installation of applications and the operating system is part of the stated administrative tasks. he provider is responsible for supplying the level of services and storage that will allow for the smooth operation of all aspects of the systems. The server has to contain enough storage for the operating system, application software and for backup systems needed by the customer. Sometimes, the client will need extra data storage that is outside the standard systems needs. Typically, any applications hosted on the server defined in the agreement is the responsibility of the customer. The systems administrator will work with the staff of the client to install the software, but will not be responsible for its regular administration and operation. Any upgrades or enhancements must be the responsibility of the client and the software vendor Learning why custom SLA is important for managed hosting is fundamental for efficient operation of the equipment. The software system must be in prime operating condition with a minimal amount of downtime. The terms must be identified for the rights and responsibilities of each party to the agreement.
