The home wind turbine has become very popular of late. Shrinking supplies of fossil fuels along and awareness of sustainable energy systems and green energy initiatives has caused the home wind turbine to be on everyone's mind. However, it is the home wind turbine for everyone? The answer that is categorically, no… The reason I say that is… First of all, you have to first make sure that you have enough wind around your house to support the project. Just because you see a breeze blowing the trees out your front window does not mean that you have enough to generate significant wind energy. You must understand that you need to take some data on the electricity for use by appliances or pumps and the best way to do that is through an anemometer or a similar device that allows you to take in the information that you need over time and later download it to some type of computer for analysis. Secondly, you need to be in an area where people will allow wind turbines to exist. Many communities have a real problem with wind turbine technology being mounted on homes or near homes. There is a lot of negative feelings toward the negative effects of the horizontal wind turbine in particular. Many people feel the shadow flicker that happens because the blades turning slowly is a real annoyance. They are also a danger to migrating flocks of birds which can be a problem in some areas. Where a home wind turbine kit fits is in places that are very amenable to renewable resources of all kinds. Somewhere like California where the legislature has offered huge incentives for people to go renewable, for example. As time goes on more and more places will be adequate for locating the wind turbine. Especially as the speed needed to operate decreases, we will see more and more dwellings all around the country with wind turbines on their roofs. If you are trying to get on top of your energy costs and make sure that you are paying the least about going forward as well as having the independence gained from making your own power, then the home wind turbine is definitely the way to go. It is very doable by the average homeowner without having specific technical ability in this area. This is not the same as with geothermal or solar power which require specific extra expertise to get done. In conclusion, the home wind turbine is something for everyone to look into. Is it for everyone? No, but increasingly it will be so in the future as prices decline and technology improves to make these devices ubiquitously acceptable.
