Wind Turbine Kits: Are They Safe?

[Valid RSS feed]  Category Rss Feed - http://www.articleforbacklinks.com/rss.php?rss=92
By : Roger Brown

Wind turbine kits are the safest products on the market right now. That is because their components have been selected by manufacturers and models for their efficiency and safety.

If you buy something from a dealer of course you're sure that you're dealing with safe product. However if you are building one of these from a kit you were selecting all of your own subcomponents and therefore introducing a lot of variability into the equation. For example, if you are building from a set of plans you may choose to use some inferior parts or ones that have been used in wind turbines previously. Therefore the variability and the likelihood of failure goes way up.

The least safe product in this genre is the wind turbine made from a set of plans. There is just so much variability in the quality of the parts that people buy for them. When you operate from a set of plans the specs are given but there is often little suggestion about what exactly you should buy or where you should buy it. Therefore, the person building a wind turbine from a set of plans could be buying something that is of poor quality or even a reject from a production line.

There is one aspect of wind turbine safety though that is somewhat unavoidable and that is the problem with birds and other wildlife. There is just no getting around this unfortunately. Birds sometime run into the blades of the turbine and get killed. The wind power generator is foreign to their environment and they get confused by it. The biggest problem of course is with commercial or utility-sized turbines. They are much larger and the blades have much higher inertia which and this is where the damage to wildlife would come from.

By and large though, wind turbine kits are very safe devices. Even if something were to go wrong with the kit or the parts in it, there is just not that much to go wrong on a scale that could cause you harm. The biggest danger is to wildlife. You do have to be careful when working on wind turbine kits though, once they are up and running. They are not safe at all while the blades are turning and making power.

In conclusion, wind turbine kits are safe if you follow all the procedures for making them so. Wind turbine kits by and large are the safest alternative for building a wind turbine device at home.
