The residential wind turbines of today are really quite affordable. You can get them in so many different varieties to fit almost any situation. As time goes on, they will only become practical and more affordable for a variety of different people all over the planet. The wind pretty much needs to be one of our first lines of defense against the receding tide of fossil fuel supplies worldwide. Although there are other opportunities, such as solar energy and geothermal energy, the wind is the most intuitively obvious for us to use since it is found most everywhere. Also, it happens to be the easiest for most people build it as a do-it-yourself project. In the past, residential wind turbines could be on the expensive side. Technology was not that well-developed and you pretty much had to get a specialist in wind turbine technology to do your installation for you. The major area of technology we need to consider for improvement in is the average wind speed that the wind turbine needs in order to function. As materials become lighter and lighter, the wind speed needed to drive the turbine will decrease as well. This will only make it more likely that the wind device will be able function extremely low wind conditions. As time passes though, more and more people have bought these units for their homes in the prices of comedown commensurately. As the technology has improved and the prices have become lower, it has enticed a new market base of consumers that ordinarily would never thought about a renewable fuel source for their home. Residential wind turbines are extremely price effective now especially when compared with the tremendous amount that you pay for residential energy supplies from the utility over the next 10 years. The price of power is going up but the price for these devices is going down. In conclusion, residential wind turbines are extremely affordable for most people now. That is not even a shade of things to come though. As more and more people buy these units and the cost of manufacturing them goes down, the price will accelerate in a downward direction as well. As more more units get into the field and more and more people get involved in the developmental stage of these devices, technological improvements will result making them even more efficient and thereby making them even a more affordable alternate.
