The second type is the vertical turbine kit. These devices are usually placed on roofs and have no tail section to direct the turbine in the path of the prevailing wind, so they tend to be less efficient than the horizontal wind turbine. This is a very strong solution for an urban roof environment though. As a matter of fact, it may be the only choice for that envirnoment as many communities and towns simply will not allow a horizontal device placed on the roof.
In the final analysis, both will make a lot of power for you. The question you must ask and resolve is which will function best in the unique wind microclimate where you are planning to locate the equipment. The horizontal device is definitely the best kind if you try to produce a lot of wind power, but it might not be something that's even an option depending where you live.
