By : Roger Brown

Wind turbine kits have gained tremendously in popularity in the past few years. However, there are alternatives that are worthy of consideration, depending on where you happen to live. Solar power and wind power are both part of the same renewable phenomenon occurring all over the world.

As people get sick and tired of paying higher and higher electricity costs due to fossil fuel markets spinning out of control, we are all seeing both of these devices-wind turbines and solar collectors-pop-up everywhere. Not only homes are using them but also large power utilities are employing solar and wind technologies to offset times when their systems are at a peak.

In certain places in the country, wind is far better than solar and this is why...

Too much shading - This is a real problem for solar projects. Even if you happen to live in a state where there is enough signed theoretically to sustain your project, it is very easy to solve optimize your solar efforts by installing the device in an area where it will actually see the amount of sun that it theoretically could see. This makes the project somewhat complicated and in contrast, makes winds seem a lot simpler and more straightforward.

Wind is very strong in that part of the country - If you happen to live in an area of the country that has a lot of sun you could also consequently have a lot of wind. As you may or may not know, wind energy is an aspect of solar energy. That is to say, the wind is caused by the heating of the Earth and the eventual cooling which unevenly transfers heat to the air and thereby causes the wind that we see. Bottom line is though that when maybe a stronger answer for you as a renewable option than sun, even if you happen to live in California, for example.

Home wind turbine energy is easier to understand than solar - Wind is just intuitively easier grasp. Not saying that you won't be able understand how solar collector works, but wind energy is just simple and straightforward and a concept that doesn't require a lot of science to understand. In the final analysis though, we don't really have to make a choice between wind and sun, or wind power or solar power. That is because these devices work well in harmony. There's no reason in the world why you can't have both a solar collector and a wind turbine combined in one location.

In conclusion, wind turbine kits are coming into their own and they are more popular than solar in many areas because they are something the average homeowner can do on their own.
